The town of Washington is located in Rapphanock county, also known as “Little Washington”, and named after the first president who surveyed the town in 1749. The tiny village resides in the foothills of the Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains. This tiny village is about quality over quantity with dining and lodging businesses that have won many awards for excellence. The village has a 5-star/5 Diamond Inn and a 4 star Bed and Breakfast named Middleton Inn. On of the Top 50 shops ins the south named Rit Ballards, a theater featuring world renown musicians. The town is considered a National Landmark with a population of less than 150 persons.

Little Washington is a great romantic getaway, a gourmet weekend, a tour of Virginia’s finest wineries and hiking along the Shenandoah National Park.


History of Washington VA

In July of 1749, George Washington before he was a General in the American Revolutionary War, and out first President, he was a young surveyor. George Washington laid out the town of what is name, “Little Washington: with a 5 block x 2 block grid that still exists without change 250 years later. The town was first established in 1796. There are 28 towns named Little Washington in the United States. The tiny village in Virginia named, Washington, was the very first one.
