The town of Richlands is located in Tazewell county in Southwest Virginia of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The town of Richlands Virginia is situated along the banks of the Upper Fork of the Clinch River. Richlands is considered to be the adventure tourism capital of the Appalachian Mountains. From ATV trails, to motorcycle rides, hiking, cycling, fishing, mountain vistas,  campgrounds, museums, Clinch River Artisan Trail, and much more.


History of Richlands VA

A land grant was issued by Patrick Henry in 1785 which evolved in to Richlands Virginia and named for its rich fertile land for farming and crops. Richlands is a farming community and was recognized for its natural resources and coal reserves. With the arrival of the, Norfolk and Western Railroad, the Clinch Valley Coal and Iron Company began to develop Richlands. The company came to capitalize on coal, iron, and timber in the area. The town was incorporated in 1892.
