The town of Oakland Maryland the County seat for Garrett County, Maryland is located only a few miles from the Potomac River in the Appalachian Mountains of Western Maryland. The town of Oakland, Maryland is also the home to a restored 1884 train station, B&O Museum, the new Transportation Museum and the County’s Historical Society Museum. History of Oakland MD

Oakland was founded in 1849, and was for the many oak trees around the town. The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad played a large influence in the development of Oakland which served as a stopping point for the first common carrier railroad.  The railway brought many living in the cities of Washington DC and Baltimore to Oakland for the cooler climates and small town pace of life.
