The town of Homer was incorporated in 1859 and serves as the county seat of Banks County, Georgia. This small rural town is located on Old U.S. Highway 441 and close to I-85. Homer has many historic structures, including the historic courthouse built in 1863 and the historic Old Jail built c. 1880.

Play golf at Hammer’s Glen, visit local potter Steve Turpin at Turpin Pottery, shop the outlet stores at Banks Crossing or experience the thrill of drag racing at Atlanta Dragway.

The Narrows in Banks County is where Ty Cobb was born. Ty Cobb was born in Banks County on December 18, 1886 at 1350 Hwy. 105 (Ty Cobb Parkway), Ty Cobb spent 24 years playing professional baseball and was the first player to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Fort Hollingsworth, a circa 1792/1793 fort turned farmhouse in 1860. Although you can’t get up close, stop by for a sunset picture of the Blind Suzie Covered Bridge outside of town.
