History of Hillsville VA

Hillsville began in the 1820s as a trading post along a stagecoach road which exported the local farms produce of rye, wheat, and corn. Hillsville was formerly known as Cranberry Plains, The town was named after the Hill family and became the county seat of Carroll county in 1842.
