Town of Morristown TN
The city of Morristown is located and is the county seat of Hamblen County in East Tennessee Mountains. Morristown is situated between the Great Smoky Mountains and the Clinch Mountain.
Morristown offers many things to do and see when visitors come to the area such as fishing, boating, water sports on the Cherokee lake, bicycling, hiking trails, the Panther Creek State Park, golf courses, annual festivals, classic car shows, performing arts, art galleries, craft shops, outdoor live music concerts, shopping in the historic district, and college and professional sports.

History of Morristown TN
The first European settlers was a farmer name Gideon Morris. He arrived in Morristown and settled on the Watauga settlement that was leased from the Cherokee tribes in the 1770s. The city of Morristown was named after Gideon Morris and his family. The 400 acre tract of land was deeded to John Morris in 1817.
The famous Pioneer, David Crockett lived in Morristown. His father, John Crockett built a tavern there in 1794. The current Crockett Tavern Museum sits on the same location of the former Tavern and is on the National Registry of Historic Places.
During the Civil War, Morristown was divided in support for the Union and Confederate armies. During the winter of 1863, 25,000 Confederate soldiers under General Longstreet camped in Morristown until February 1864 after the battle of Beane Station. Many skirmishes happened between the two armies and many of the soldiers from both sides are buried at the Bethesda Church cemetery.
One unique feature on Main Street in Morristown arose from the railroas economy and the town decided to build sky-walks above the streets allowing second story business to flourish making Morristown called the “Sky Mart District”.
