The town of Greenville is located in Greene County in the foothills of the East Tennessee Blue Ridge Mountains. Greenville is situated between Bays Mountain and Bald Mountain and is just North of the Nolichucky River. Greenville Tennessee has majestic mountains, waterways, streams, and is home to our 17th president Andrew Johnson and the birthplace to David Crockett.

History of Greeneville TN

Native Americans were hunting and camping in the Greenville Tennessee area in the Nolichucky Valley around 10,000 BC up until the 18th century when settlers moved into the Cherokee territory. Jacob brown a North American merchant in 1772 leased a portion of the land from the Cherokee, and this settlement became Greenville.

The county was named after Nathaniel Greene a Revolutionary War hero who settled in the Nolichucky Valley. Greenville was recognized as a town in 1786.
